Iranian Elections

I’m not a constpiracy therist by any means but I can’t help to wonder about Iran’s latest election results. According to the polls before voting day, the margin between Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (current president) and Mir-Hossein Mousavi were close but after the ballets were counted, Ahmadinejad came out the winner with over 60% of the votes, a outright huge margin.  So, you have the irregularities in the pre-election polls with the outcome of the election but there is a large number of other issues that raise the question of the results.

Before the election, Iran shut down texting services for cell phones because Mousavi’s party was using it communicate with 1000’s people. In late May, they blocked all access to Facebook because, once again, Mousavi’s party was using to recruit a large younger population. On the day of the election cell phone communication and the internet as a whole was downed.

Then, to keep adding to it, you have the amazing speed at which these hand written ballets were counted. By hand they counted of 39 million ballets and they somehow did it with a handful of hours what was estimated to take at least a full 24 hours.

Once last thing is the numerous rumors coming out of the government of such a fraud. Employees and high officials, some public and some anonymous, are claiming fraud and that the government was cleaning house of any non-Ahmadinejad supporters.

Thus, these questions remain:

  • Was it fraud?
  • If so, would the current Ahmadinejad government ever consent to an investigation or would they just tamper with that too?
  • If so, what should the world do to remove an obvious tyrant?
